I can’t wait to hear from you!  My name is Christine Babler, CLD, CPD (Certified Labour Doula, Certified Postpartum Doula).  I am the mother of four wonderful children, born in 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2009.  That last one was a bit of a surprise!

I became an RN in 1989 and worked at the Hospital for Sick Children for the next nine years, on the General Medicine inpatient unit.  I always most enjoyed helping parents with the challenges of parenting, such as help with breastfeeding, infant care, or health teaching.  I took my Level 1 Breastfeeding Support course at Sick Kids.  I worked with many infants and children with chronic health conditions.

I have also been a home daycare provider, and worked in a wide variety of volunteer roles mostly to do with children. I volunteered at WINGS maternity home, offering encouragement and breastfeeding support to young moms.

Personally, I have had a wide variety of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding experiences.

I am a Certified Labour Doula and Certified Postpartum Doula with CAPPA, (cappa.net), a highly respected Doula training agency.  My goal is to work part time, which ensures that I will never book clients close together.  I will be available for your birth, and I have an experienced doula as my backup in case of an unforeseen event.

Special skills that I bring to the table as your doula:

I was born to be a doula!

I love to bring encouragement to people who need it.  I am able to maintain my calm in intense situations.

I respect your ability to make your own decisions.  I strongly believe that you deserve to know facts about your options in labour and delivery and parenting so that you can make informed choices.

I have a warm, caring nature. I bring a sense of humour and tolerance with me.  I have worked with people from many nationalities and religions in my job at Sick Kids and am comfortable with families from all around our beautiful world.  Families giving birth are the same the world over.

I am comfortable with the hospital environment.  I understand the medical terminology and understand the way the medical and nursing system operates.

I have so many comfort measure tricks up my sleeve!  I can help your support person/partner to be involved to their comfort level.  I will stay focused on you and your comfort even when others need to take a break, or even when the birth happens!

I am passionate about breastfeeding!  I breastfed my own four kids through some challenges, took the Sick Kids Level 1 Breastfeeding support course, and in Fall 2017, took the CAPPA Lactation Educator training.  I have helped many families with breastfeeding, both professionally and personally.

I have experience feeding children with allergies and a dairy and gluten free diet, and I can support any special dietary need you may have.

I can help you to integrate a new child into your family.  I am easy to talk to!  I can help you adjust to life as a new mom, or a new mom again.  I can offer support in the home with your kids, running errands, light housekeeping, meal preparation, talking over infant care questions, breastfeeding support, or making it possible for you to take a nap!
